How and why I started to design hats for women with hair loss.
Several of my favourite women have suffered through cancer and the hair loss that accompanies chemotherapy.
There was my treasured Aunt Aileen who kept smiling all the way through her battle with cancer.
There was my vivacious Aunt Jackie who after surgery found there was lots more life to live.
There was my indomitable mother, Violet, who I think really enjoyed wearing her wigs.
However it was a gentle, young woman I worked with who got me enthusiastic about designing special hats for women with little or no hair.
She wanted to wear comfortable, nice-looking hats that would appear typical enough to be chosen by any young woman of her age. And why not!
Finding a “feels good” hat when your head is bare can be complicated.
So I set out to design head coverings that meet the special needs of women with hair loss. I planned for hats that look attractive, that feel good and are easy to wash and wear.
